Saturday, September 27, 2014
10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Tune into tpt MN for a special day of programming!
American Graduate Day 2014 features seven hours of national and local programming, live interviews and performances that highlight efforts to bolster high school graduation rates, address the academic achievement gap and support educators, students, families and communities.
This annual event is part of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen, a multi-year public media initiative made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to help communities identify and implement solutions to high school dropout crisis. This local and national initiative uses the power of public media to shed light on the barriers to success our young people face, and partner with communities to break those barriers down.
American Graduate Day 2014 will be hosted by Wes Moore, bestselling author, TV personality and champion for youth. The broadcast will include:
- “Stories of Champions,” a series of one-minute profile pieces spotlighting national thought leaders who are successfully keeping students on the path to graduation.
- Themed content around Early Education; Special Needs, Career and College Readiness, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics).
- Locally produced content by Stairstep Foundation, the Minnesota Alliance With Youth, and the Minnesota Department of Education.
- Special guests include General Colin Powell, singer Tony Bennett, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Sesame Street’s Elmo and more.
