Now viewers across the nation can learn how to be good jurors. Forensics: Beyond the CSI Effect will be offered for air on PBS stations nationally, starting on November 7th.
A tpt MN production funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Forensics: Beyond the CSI Effect is an effort to inform judges, lawyers and jurors alike about the procedures of police investigations. There is especially a great need to consider the importance of the scientific method in accurately solving crimes. Dramas such as CSI and other forensic-focused programs often inaccurately portray how evidence is gathered and used in a criminal investigation.
This program is only part of a larger web effort dedicated to helping all understand basic forensic science. Forensic Basics is an online media-rich web resource that provides citizens the tools to realize and acknowledge the delicate relationship between standard scientific procedures and non-scientist interpretation. Through this website, viewers can learn the proper ways to make decisions about the physical evidence they are presented with while in a court of law.
Forensic Basics combines video, animations, re-enactments, a full glossary and links to appropriate outside websites, all dedicated to helping citizens learn about the realities and limitations of science in crimes.
